1. Does cat food have to be halal?
The issuing of cat food being halal is divided into two parts; one, the purchase of the item and two, benefitting from it by, in this case, giving it to one’s cat.
Muslims can only purchase halal and can only give halal to another therefore cat food needs to be halal. This will make the purchase valid and the benefitting from it by feeding it to one’s pet.
2. Can I feed my cat non halal food?
One cannot feed one’s cat food that is not halal as this is benefitting from something which is not halal. Also most likely this would have been purchased and that raises another problem and that is the purchase of something which is not halal.
3. Can you get halal cat food in the UK?

10. How to know if cat food is haram or halal?
When deciding if cat food is halal or not then you need to see what the website of the product has written about halal. It is not sufficient just to see the words ‘halal’ or the Arabic word. The reason for this is because the word ‘halal’ is not assessed or audited by any governmental organisation to ensure that when a person or company uses the word ‘halal’ that the item actually is halal.
Therefore, you need to find a certificate from a recognised, reputable scholar or an organisation that certifies it as halal. However, even this is not sufficient as there has to be an audited process from the farm where the animal is reared, through the entire manufacturing process and up to packaging to ensure compliance.
This certified product will give you confidence that the product you have bought is halal and as a consequence the transaction is halal and that you can benefit from it by feeding it to your cat.
